Be meticulous in reviewing your credit report

Your daydreams are all about buying your first home, or possibly a bigger place with more elbow room for the family. But you're nervous about possible mistakes on your credit reports. Will these rob you of the chance for the best mortgage rate available?

For any home purchaser, this is a reasonable question, says Evan Hendricks, author of the book "Credit Scores & Credit Reports."

"Unless you do something about them, even small errors can have a hugely disproportionate impact on the cost of your mortgage money," Hendricks says.

Many people are shocked at what they find on their credit reports, he says. Perhaps you'll discover that the car loan you paid off a couple of years ago is still listed as "unpaid." Or you'll find you're being dunned for the delinquent bills of a perfect stranger with a name like yours.

Abbey National 1st Half Statutory Pretax Profit +20%

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Abbey National said Thursday that statutory profit before tax in the first half of the year, excluding the impact of the sale of the life companies, was over 20% higher than the same period last year.
The outlook for the second half of the year remains positive, with revenue growth rates expected to slow relative to a stronger second half in 2005, the company said.
It said growth in trading profit before tax had been strong in comparison to the same period last year, with revenue growth combined with further cost reduction only partially offset by increased retail lending provisions in line with expectations.
Trading income was up on the same period last year, even after the further adverse impact of lapse experiences and changes in assumptions in the Life companies.

£800,000 for bullied city high-flyer

She said of the ruling: "I am absolutely delighted and very relieved that the trauma has come to an end. This is the end of a long and painful battle. Instead of acknowledging the problem, the bank added to my anguish by conducting this litigation in an unnecessarily obstructive and hostile manner.

"In fighting my case I have become more aware of what a big problem bullying is for the City. Not only does Deutsche Bank have to put its house in order, but all City businesses will have to do more."

Deutsche Bank had denied the allegations of bullying and said her breakdowns could not have been foreseen. It also claimed that Miss Greens poor performance and attitude meant it was unlikely she would have been kept on.

It has yet to decide whether to appeal.
