It says tenants need to work out a cash plan first to make sure they have enough to cover 'hidden' costs. It also advises shopping around and not accepting the first loan offered. There are more than 4,000 sub-prime mortgage products available, says data provider Moneyfacts, many backed by investment banks and mainstream lenders.
