Fuel now is Northwest's top expense -- even more than those labor contracts it has been working so hard to negotiate -- accounting for up to 35 percent of operating costs.



Rates seen steady in cliffhanger decision

Interest rates will probably remain on hold on Thursday, marking a year of no change at 4.5 percent, but the chances that the Bank of England will raise them are higher than for a long time.

Following a series strong economic reports, seven out of 46 economists polled by Reuters last week forecast the Monetary Policy Committee would increase rates to 4.75 percent on Thursday, .
