Credit Rating: What Is It and Why Should I Pay Attention? ...

Far too few people know about something that has a huge impact on their life--their credit rating. They often learn about it after it is too late and pay dearly for it. You see you start forming your score as soon as you become a regular consumer which for a lot of people is during High School and for most is at least by the time they enter college.

The problem is that they don't know what this mysterious entity is all about and make decisions that they rue financially. It really is a shame that more of this financial mumbo jumbo isn't taught to people in high school. The problem is it is not just a problem of young people and so their teachers might not have the foggiest either.

Prudential Financial Q2 Profit Declines 44%, Operating EPS Misses ...

(RTTNews) - After the bell Wednesday, Prudential Financial Inc. (PRU | charts | news | PowerRating) announced financial results for its second quarter, reporting that profit fell 44% from a year ago, largely due to $311 million in realized investment losses. Most of the investment losses stemmed from the sale of bonds Prudential had invested in, and from fluctuations in value of certain hedging instruments, the insurer used to cover its foreign currency risk. Earnings on an operating basis, which excludes losses on investments and other charges, rose 25%, but still fell short of Wall Street expectations. Total revenue for the period increased 6%, but was below the current analysts expectation. Prudential also raised its full year earnings outlook. The firm's earnings range for all of 2006 is now below what analysts had been predicting.
